MDT 2013 Update 1 – Re-released – Upgrading

So yesterday the re-release of MDT 2013 Update 1 was RTMed. This means that a number of the current bugs have now been fixed. Please do note that not everything has been fixed and a couple of issues still requires workarounds.

So first things first, if you have MDT 2013 Update 1 Techincal Preview there is no supported upgrade path. MDT2013U1 TP has to be uninstalled and a new installation needs to take its place. Also note that MDT2013U1 requires ADK10, and if you plan to integrate with Configuration Manager make sure you have a ADK10 supported version of Configuration Manager.

The installation in itself is straight forward, just keep klicking next unitl its says finish =)

Integration with Configration Manager is done as before. Start the integration component and choose integrate.

Now on to why im writing this post. There are ALOT of changes in the re-release. This means among other things the Templates have recived a number of updates. Make sure you create new Task Sequences to incorporate all the fixes. To name one, take a look at the picture below. To the left is the re-released version of MDT and to the right is the previous version. If you look at the format and partion steps you can see that they differ alot.

All your custom settings, steps, applications etc can easily be transferd from and old TS to a new one using copy and paste. Yes that has been working for some time for entire blocks of settings. So if you have done as many do created a group of settings, the entire group can be copied over.

The issue where bootimage creating is failing due to fast disks in ADK10 is sitll around as that is a problem with ADK10. Please use the appropriate workarounds for that!

There are also a number of other issues that are addressed. Read more about them in the post from Aaron here

Happy Upgrading!
